Update on Disaster Recovery Efforts

Vehicle plows through standing water in flooded roadFollowing the earthquakes in Mexico and Hurricane Maria, United Way has taken the following steps to expand recovery efforts since the initial United Way Harvey and Irma Funds were set up. They have:

  • Established the United Way Worldwide Mexico Earthquake Recovery Fund.
  • Expanded the United Way Irma Recovery Fund to include Hurricane Maria.
  • Started disbursing money from the United Way Harvey Recovery Fund.

All three funds are accessible from unitedway.org/recovery. Funds will be disbursed to local United Ways in the affected areas. Read More

The Northfield Area United Way is allocating grants totaling $263,000 to 17 nonprofit partners in 2017-18. These organizations play an essential role in advancing financial stability (basic needs), education and health – the building blocks for self-sufficiency and a good quality of life – in our community. Introducing Our New Director

Penny Hillemann is the Northfield Area United Way’s new executive director. She started work on May 22.

Penny comes to us after 12 years at Neuger Communications Group, where she worked with many of the firm’s nonprofit clients. A Northfield resident since 1990, Penny has raised three children here and has been active in the community. Read More
