The Community Action Center promotes a healthy, caring and just community for all people. The CAC meets basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter; provides crisis support, transportation, and services designed to facilitate neighbors helping neighbors. Included in programming: Northfield Works, the Food Shelf and emergency financial assistance.
Enhances the well-being of families and builds self-esteem for kids. Programs include Operation Backpack, Christmas Sharing, Thursday’s Table community meals, and youth volunteer opportunities.
Recruits, trains, and manages volunteers across CAC programs. Builds relationship networks across the community to address economic and social challenges.
Homes for All
Provides emergency shelter, transitional housing for homeless families, and permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless people with mental illness. All housing programs include case management services to foster self-sufficiency.
Supports teams of Neighborhood Leaders in the Viking Terrace and Jefferson Square neighborhoods who serve as advocates and community organizers. Growing Up Healthy hosts “bonding” activities to foster a sense of community and “bridging” events to build relationships with other Northfield residents.
Northfield Area United Way’s Executive Director fosters collaboration between community groups; makes connections between potential partners to create or expand community services; raises awareness of social services supported by United Way grants.
