Following the earthquakes in Mexico and Hurricane Maria, United Way has taken the following steps to expand recovery efforts since the initial United Way Harvey and Irma Funds were set up. They have:
- Established the United Way Worldwide Mexico Earthquake Recovery Fund.
- Expanded the United Way Irma Recovery Fund to include Hurricane Maria.
- Started disbursing money from the United Way Harvey Recovery Fund.
All three funds are accessible from unitedway.org/recovery. Funds will be disbursed to local United Ways in the affected areas.
As of September 27, the United Way Network has raised more than $56.05 million for storm-related needs and mid- and long-term recovery efforts related to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. This includes money donated to the national fund and to funds set up by local United Ways. More than $47.07 million has been raised for Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts. Almost $8.56 million has been raised for Hurricane Irma recovery efforts. Almost $299,000 has been designated for where the money is most needed. (These figures have been rounded.)
